    As Above, So Below

    What came first? Awareness of energy and the sun as it's source, was probably first but the moon may have been close behind (especially for women when menstruating to it's rhythms). We know from the Le Placard baton and the work of Alexander Marshack that calculations of the lunar cycle are around 30,000 years old in accurate detail. However, it was millions of years before that when wolves bayed at the moon when a wolf-like creature that became the porpoise after an evolutionary divergence occurred 200 million years ago.

    Life has always looked up or Above. We lifeforms are above other energy in our planet and in the elements or elementals therein. Thus began awareness and consciousness. Certain forms and figures became sources of inspiration and joy. The places where legs meet on many mammals caused a different kind of baying at the moon, and language was born or sharing of feelings. There is a lot of talk about Astro Theology and the like in certain circles. People have learned the sun and son were the same thing in many pre-scriptural systems which were made into the dogma we have the misfortune of sharing with lesser life forms who seem unable to think for themselves. That evolution towards sheoplehood has a Creationist element for certain. Is our cosmic reality dualistic like the wave-particle nature of light?

    So if a person was an actual adept in astrology such as medical astrologers can be, could they help people have babies or predict the body responses to the energy of the sun then moon and even the stars which have lesser but important influences on all life on earth since life began? Yes, indeed and until late in the 20th Century it was used in Czechoslovakia to a high degree of efficacy. But we are told mankind did not know the cause of babies until recent times around the second millennium BPE. I doubt that is true but for the masses who consulted the shaman/astrologers who became priestly interpreters for them, I can see that was true.

    There is much more meaning in the Law of the Magi called the Dictum of Hermes found on the Tabula Smaragdina. You can access the collective knowledge which gathers and is drawn to energy banks of similar wavelength and form or vectors thereof. It is called different things in different cultures. It has been built into concepts far different than factual such as Heaven and Hell, and even more recent manipulations by the likes of Blavatsky and channellers who try to describe the source of their hypnagogic or other tap-in and at - one - ment. You can call it The Akashic Record and visualize a library with books like the Ars Memoriae teaches for better memory, if you want. You can call it Ein Sof and a near god of all knowledge like Thoth. Call it what you want you will never fully know it. Is it weird to ask if Gravity itself is a push above or a pulling force down or below? Is Negative Gravity as real as Einstein thought?


    This story is depicted in the stars by performing the celestial embroidery work spoken of by Plato in Timaeus.24 When we watch the constellations rise in the east, we see fresh life coming to earth from the heavens below the horizon. When we watch the constellations descend below the western horizon, we see life consumed and returning to the heavens. It is a story board partially visible from anywhere on the planet, but it is an holistic chora scene perceivable to the trained eye from latitudes near the latitude of the Great Pyramid. The celestial story was recorded within the Great Pyramid as a key for the gate at Rostau. Modern Western Civilization has been cheated out of this heritage by rational philosophers and material scientists who have successfully destroyed the embroidered asterisms of the constellations that tell the ancient stories.25 When the complete set of ancient constellations are understood and perceived as the heavens roll about the axis of the Earth, the stories of Ra, Tem, Shu, Tefnut, Geb, Nut, Osiris, Isis, Seth, Nephthys, Horus, the four sons of Horus, and the shadows caused by ignorance of the lights from the heavens, will unfold as if they were Coming Forth by Day, the original title of the great Book of the Dead.26

    As Plato confirmed, the stories are eternal, but the Earth is moving within the cosmos. The enigma of the Earth movement is a point of contention between ancient science and modern science.27 This movement is called the precession of the equinoxes and is given the name of the great philosopher, the Platonic Year. Plato described it in Timaeus; "And the earth our foster-mother, winding as she does about the axis of the universe, he (God) devised to be the guardian and maker of night and day, and first and oldest of the gods born within the heaven."28 There has been much dispute about the meaning of the words "winding --- about the axis of the universe," but here is the message which the Giza complex was designed to reveal. Three great pyramids, and six small pyramids, depict the complete cycle of the "winding earth." These three sets of three pyramids are intended to draw the conscious mind toward the constellation of Orion. Three small pyramids to the southwest identify the location of the constellation as it sets when the spring sun is near the head of Virgo.29 Three small pyramids to the east identify the location of the constellation as it rises when the spring sun is in Pisces above the Ben Ben stone in Hydrus, the Phoenix, and the Sculptor.30 These two vernal equinox locations were known to the Ancients by more common expressions, as mid-day and mid-night of the cosmos.31

    The choice of the constellation of Orion to tell the longest story readable in the heavens was not arbitrary. Orion is oriented squarely under the plane of the Earth's orbit, as if it's "chora" purpose was to keep the ecliptic plain from falling into the celestial abyss, or the ecliptic barque of the sun from rocking too far. The constellation represents the brightest, and one of the most recognizable groupings of stars. Its position along side the Milky Way standing in the constellation of the celestial river Eridanus just above the constellation of Seth (Lepus) declares the message of the eternal battle between cosmic and self consciousness, and day and night.32 Here is where the baptism and battle of the "sons of darkness" and the "sons of light" mentioned in the Dead Sea Scrolls takes place.33 Symbolically, the constellation of Orion restores the celestial earth to balanced and abundant cosmic life, and the pyramids guarantee eternal life to those fortunate enough to be buried within the Osiris complex.

    In the legends of Egypt, the constellation of the father, Ra (Ophiuchus34), and the son, Osiris (Orion 35), rise and fall relative to the celestial equator with the cosmic cycle of the Platonic Year. It is a story which can be seen with the naked eye, when the common "sense" of visual perception is applied to the "topos" place the Egyptians called Rostau, and we call Giza. All that is required is an eye for the stars which are sometimes hidden by the light of day, or by the time of year, or the state of mind. Modern philosophy of celestial evolution of blazing balls of gas hides the spiritual message from the rational mind that perceives, instead, a Big Bag expanding universe in space-time, where black holes consume the residue of cosmic reality, and worm holes provide escape routes from the common sense universe. But to the mind that sees cosmic chalk on the blackboard of creation, these same blazing balls of gas symbolize the greatest lessons ever learned in the school of reality, as taught by that Cosmic Force which caused it to be in motion, "winding --- about the axis of the universe." Shakespeare declared the essence of a rose to be its smell, for like the Egyptians before him, he understood that the message is not the ink stains on the paper, the chalk on the blackboard, or the stars in the sky. The message is the chora place which these artifacts of cosmic consciousness memorialize.

    Thus the passing of a single day tells the whole story of eternity. We are influenced by images of our parents in our own search for maturity. On Earth within the pyramid are the chambers of the Father, Mother, and Child. These three chambers still symbolize the ultimate places for human psychological development as the Super Ego, the Id, and the Ego. Below the pyramid on Earth and above in the stars of the heavens is the united eternal resting place where the genetic and esoteric records pass from generation to generation, and ultimately, from star to star. The pyramid was built as a residence for the Grand Gallery, which is symbolic of the grandeur and brevity of the material experiences of life. Anyone who has had a mother and a father knows that the heritage of the body and the legacy of the mind are passed on through parents for all eternity. Spirits of past lives encapsulated into esoteric messages through the father, and intuitive nurturing care by the mother, assure that eternal spiritual life is an experience that never ceases. Egypt united the two lands, for they believed, "as it is above, so it is below," and used the metaphors of Ra-Ophiuchus and Osiris-Orion to illustrate the chora place where eternal life never ceases to amaze the humble sage, as it passes from generation to generation."

    We have witnessed an enormous upheaval in science which has added to the freedoms of the Renaissance and it's bedmate Enlightenment. Shakespeare guided us through it all and continues to be relevant today. Modernism may still be struggling to find a theme with any philosophical integrating spokesman or force. There are many who aspire to be that spokesperson from many sectors of knowledge, but there has not been a hero or ascendant being despite my love for many who made heroic efforts. I think Evans wrote something before my writing efforts began in earnest which has validity to set the stage of just how difficult it will be for any person or even a school of thought to replace Wee Willy. Jung might have come close in the psychological venue but even he would agree William James was his equal or better, I think. But that was not even the area Shakespeare addressed. Was, his pen focused on the body politik, or the arts? Was he as his friend Ben Jonson eulogized - a man for all aeons?

    There are two ways of understanding art. There is a traditional philosophy which, as Susan Sontag (1961) has shown, is based on a mimetic theory derived from the Greeks (mainly Plato). But there is also a second way - perhaps of greater antiquity and authenticity - which defines art in terms of experience rather than imitation (mimesis) or even communication. As Sontag explains, Plato defined art in order to limit its significance. He categorized it as "an elaborate tromp l'oeil and therefore a lie" because, according to his philosophy, the world is also limited in significance being merely the transient reflection of pure 'forms' - the numinous Platonic Ideas..... Modern hermetic art attempts to return to these ancient conceptions of the arts and the artist. It attempts, through all its forms (but especially through poetry and drama) to repossess the magical powers of the imagination stultified by millenia of rationalism.


    Today the term 'hermeticism' relates to two distinct phenomena which are nevertheless linked together in deep and subtle ways. In traditional usage the term refers to a complex of esoteric mystery teachings dating from the Hellenistic period. Hans Jonas (1958) refers to "the religion of the Thrice Greatest Hermesl', the legendary author of the corpus hermeticum. This collection of scriptures contains such works as The Pimander, a gnostic cosmogeny, the Asclepius, a text which influenced the development of Renaissance aesthetic magic, and the famous Tabula Smaragdina (Emerald Table), a doctrine of nature later incorporated via Islamic sources into alchemical thought. Throughout the ages the literature of the Western Hermetic Tradition has been associated with works of cryptic obscurity and enigmatic visual images, It is this 'obscurity' which has given rise to the common use of the word 'hermetic', as in the phrase 'hermetically sealed'. Many Hermetic works - such as Bruno's De Umbris Idearum (On the Shadow's of Forms, 1582) are of great imaginative power. And many alchemical illustrations such as those contained in Trismosin's Splendor Solis (1582), or the drawings of the Rosicrucian Matthieu Mearin-e his illustrations to Maier's Atalanta Fugiens, 1618) are artworks in their own right. When considered in hindsight they can appear as antecedents of Surrealism and certain modern fantastic paintings (such as the works of Ernst- Fuchs or H.R. Giger). The works of The Netherlandish painter known as Hieronymous Bosch (1450-1516) are outstanding examples of a refined late Gothic style incorporating alchemico-hermetic visions which continue to exert a fascination despite (or because of) their 'hermetic' obscurity - particularly paintings such as The Garden of Earthly Delights and The Temptation of Saint Anthony (Lisbon). Boschfs paintings, which are infused with a millenarian pessimism reflect an instinctive understanding of the role of the artist (or his alter-ego, Saint Anthony) as a receiver of enigmatic visions and an explorer of the innermost recesses of the human mind. It is these qualities above all which recur with prominence in modernistic hermeticism. Just as the antithetical mimetic theory of art gained ascendancy over post-mythic culture when the hieratic gave way to rational classicism, so a new 'hermetic' school or theory of poetry emerged during the European fin-de-siecle era (~1870-1914) when the influence of the Platonic-Christian worldview (as enshrined in doctrines of Progress and Cartesian mechanisme) entered a crucial phase of decay. During this period, as in the renaissance art combined with esotericism and gave birth to a new gnosis or aesthetic renovation. There are crucial differences, however. Our modern cultural crisis is more radical because it is a post-religious crisis - a naked crisis of 'the real1 that deepens with every passing decade. Christine Brooke-Rose (1981):

    "That this century is undergoing a reality crisis has become a banality, easily and pragmatically shrugged off. Perhaps it is in fact undergoing a crisis of the imagination; a fatigue, a decadence."

    It is typical of this cultural fatigue or 'decadence' that, unlike his renaissance predecessor, our modern artist-poet no longer relies upon traditional symbols or familiar modes of discourse and signification (except to subvert them, as in some styles of 'Post-modernism'). The obscurity (hermeticism) of modern art arises, therefore not from its assimilation of certain occult theories (the doctrines of the androgyne, the idea of 'correspondences') but from a ultrapersonal subjectivity bordering in some cases upon a solipsistic despair - as for instance in certain works by Mallarme, Khnopff, Artaud and Beckett. The uninitiated reader-viewer finds modern artworks 'obscure' not (as is often asserted) because of some failure to communicate on the part of the artist but because the artist does not intend to communicate through works which are essentially private fetishes or personal sigils. Like a painting by Bosch they are often all the more effective for this very reason. Nevertheless modern art and modern occultism remain complimentary tropisms: elements of a profound shift in modern sensibility. An understanding of magical terminology and ideas can help in appreciating modern art as an art of evocation, invocation and initiation a new aesthetic gnosis - a revolutionary inner alchemy of imaginative transformation. In modern literature the term 'hermetic' has been used to identify a particular style or school of poetry. It was first popularised in establishment circles by the Italian critic Francesco Flora in 1936 when he used it in relation to the work of poets like Arturo Onofri, Guiseppe Ungaretti and other Italians such as Luzi, Gatto and Sereni. For Flora poesia ermetica was a style of subjective writing originated by the French decadents and Symbolists of the fin-de-sihcle: Rimbaud, Mallarm6 and Valery, and their precursors: Poe, Nerval and Charles Baudelaire. According to J. A. Cuddon's Dictionary of Literary Terms (1977) the characteristics of this hermetic poetry are 'obscurity', subjectivism and evocative power. It is

    "obscure difficult poetry in which language and imagery are subjective and in which the 'music' and the suggestive power of the words are as of great an importance (if not greater) as the sense."

    Cuddon also observes that this poetry often exploited "occult symbolism". There was also a simultaneous development towards hermetic obscurity in the pictorial arts during the fin-de-sihcle era. As literature moved closer to the absurd and the indeterminate, eroding the frontiers between poetry and prose and fact and fiction, transforming conventional syntax, so painting moved via Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism towards a final decomposition of meaning (Dadaism) and a total elimination of objective representation (Abstraction). This decomposition was accompanied by a plethora of schools and secessionist movements, each more outrageous and more 'modern' than the last: Decadence, Symbolism, Naturalism, Art Nouveau, Synthetism, Expressionism, Magic Realism, Futurism, Rayonism, Cubism, Orphism, Metaphysical Painting and Surrealism to name but a few. Many of the artists and writers in these movements incorporated occult ideas into their work - the painters, Gustave Moreau, Fernand Khnopff, Jean Delville and Frank Kupka, for example. But it is important to distinguish between the use of occult ideas as a theme and the conception of the artwork itself as having intrinsic magical properties."

    Is the black of night special because melatonin production ads to the psychic power as Gardner says in Genesis of the Grail Kings?

    Is it scary because you can only see what is near to you or 'within'?

    Certainly we have labeled those workers in darkness by many demonizing terminologies. But it is merely the flipside for or from light even though ancient priests in Egypt who could study their books or the knowledge passed down to them in order to know when the Eclipses would happen - and perform demanding rituals which god seemed to answer. Nature being "all that is - within" and "universe" we need never fear and though many people are vile for scaring others - there is no evil.

    At the core of the artistic developments in the nineteenth century flowed a powerful all pervasive current of influence. Heretical, iconoclastic, radical and above all anti-classical, anti-rational, anti-mechanistic and anti-academic, this chain of development has recently been identified by critics as the "experience-of-limits" literature. (phrase originated by Julia Kristeva) [see Brooke-Rose(l981)l. Writing about one of the most notorious exponents of this strand of literature - Louis Ferdinand Celine - Erica Ostrovsky (l967) has referred to a "black current" of writing, "filled with militant pessimism and violent derision, denoting a vision that is no less sombre than its poetic strength."

    Grouped under this heading of "experience-of-limits" are a number of famous - or infamous - names: Poe, Sade, Kleist, De Quincey, Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Lautreamont, Mallarme, Huysmans, Laforgue, Kafka, Nerval, Jarry, Celine, Artaud, Bataille, and the Surrealist poets, chiefly Andre Breton. Today the tradition is manifest in the works of Samuel Beckett and William S. Burroughs. The outstanding achievements of this modern tradition have been stylistic innovation and a bold exploration of the repressed, negative aspects of the human mind - regardless of consequences. Without exception each one has set out to "enlarge the limits of the human signifiable" (Brooke-Rose), creating a form of writing both idiosyncratic and often inaccessible ('hermetic'). For example Celinefs Journey to the End of Night, Beckett's How it is, Rimbaud's Season in Hell, Artaud's New Revelation of Beinq, Mallarme's Un Coup de Des, Nerval's Aurelia, Lautreamont's Maldoror and Jarry's Faustroll. In a wider context one can point to a number of experimental styles derived from the 'experience of limits' tradition: the linguistic experiments of the decadents (Laforgue, Huysmans), the 'words-in-freedom' of the Italian and Russian Futurists and the 'pure psychic automatism' of the Surrealists. The hermetic 'obscurity', and the shocking content of most of these works almost always provoked moral panic in the uninitiated reader and outright hostility from the critical establishment. Like heretics, these artist-poets became maudits or pariahs, outcasts exiled, like occultists, to the margins of cultural acceptability. Like Mallarm6 or Stefan George they only wrote for small circles of initiates but functioned, nevertheless as intercessors between society and inscrutable forces of change. If this modern hermeticism is a new form of inner alchemy, then the creative process is a procedure of purification - further, it is a form of self-initiation. The pariah-artist (maudit) of the nineteenth century was the epitome of social alienation: a nihilist aesthete isolated by the obscurity of his works, enclosed, like des Esseintes (the hero of the seminal novel A Rebours (1884) by J.K. Huysmans) in a sanctum of art, an inner retreat where psychic forces - unleashed in a mana effect by the melohypnosis of creativity - precipitate a crisis of individuation. [This idea of a secluded retreat was not just a literary fantasy. Many distinguished fin-de-siècle personalities retreated into a real-life 'thebaid', for example: W.B. Yeats in his watchtower, Strindberg in his 'Blue Tower', Fernand Khnopff in his self-designed house, Franz von Stuck in the Villa Stuck, Marcel Proust in his invalid's room.] Taken to the limit this crisis became a magical ordeal - a confrontation with the experience of psychic death .

    This is the experience common to all esoteric traditions and variously known as the Nox Profundis, the Dark Night of the Soul, or in alchemical terms, the Nigredo (Blackening).

    As C.G.Jung and others have shown, the alchemical process reflects 'archetypal' processes of psychic growth - 'individuation' or occult self-initiation. Hermetic art, while superficially referring to a cultural construct - Flora's poesia ermetica - is also grounded in the same psychic procedures. It follows that an examination of the works of a true hermetic artist like, say, Mallarme, should reveal the same 'archetypal' procedures of individuation as Jung's analysis of hermetic texts. Furthermore a wider historical perspective reveals that 'hermeticism' in various modes - gnostic or aesthetic - emerges at particular times in cultural history. The reasons for this can also be understood in terms of individuation, or initiation - collective evolution. The Hellenistic era. the Renaissance and the modern fin-de-siecle period were all epochs of profound change: epochs of cultural and social crisis. 2"

    Aristotle the Alchemist

    He is unlike the noble Plato. Plato is related to the wise Solon and Critias who was a Pyramid priest in Egypt. He told Plato about a myth called Atlantis which they thought would aid in controlling people. We can be sure there was some De Danaan in his blood. Plato created an enduring hierarchy that seeks to set some men above others; I think Aristotle can be excused for cow-towing to the political forces of his day until such time as he had to get out of town after Alexander died suddenly. He himself died the next year. As I read Aristotle I think he wrote knowing more than he let on. I know he respected Socrates who told all comers not to put true wisdom in front of Sophists or those who might abuse the knowledge. The logic of syllogism or commonly accepted principles and arguments is a powerful mind control device to this day.

    It is important for the real researcher to look past the superficial anthologies of his work and to read his Secretum Secretorum which is not even mentioned in those anthologies at my local library. I do know there are academics who say it was not his work but I will go with Roger Bacon and all middle ages philosophers. The Secretum was an explanation of alchemy for Alexander who set the alchemist family named Ptolemy in charge of Egypt. Ptolemy had Manetho do a Kings List to link himself to the De Danaan hero named Herakles. Alexander may have found the Emerald Tablet or Tabula Smaragdina in the grave of Hermes Trismegistus at Hebron. Some people think this Tablet with the Dictum of Hermes or the Magian Law known as 'As Above, SO Below' is the Holy Grail and they imagine it was at Oak Island after the Merovingians brought it there. The 'green vitreole' it was made of was indeed an immortal and vital component in the esoteric searches of those who are called De Brix.

    Here is something that still haunts the minds of people in science as the History of Psychology gives us some idea of what Aristotle sought to understand.

    "The Third Period of Greek Speculation -- Objectivism.

    Aristotle and the Rise of Objectivism. -- It would seem that Aristotle (384-322 B.C.), without doubt the greatest scientific man, if not also the greatest speculative genius, that ever lived, arose to restore the empirical tradition to philosophy after the plunge into absolutism. The time was ripe for the foundation of empirical psychology, and following his scientific instinct, he founded it. But the time was not ripe for its entire philosophical justification, and he did not justify it. He had the right to found formal logic, and he took advantage of the right. His achievements in natural science, politics, aesthetics, and ethics are also those of a man of the highest constructive genius.

    These remarks follow from the one statement that Aristotle developed both the empiricism of method of Socrates and the rationalistic logic that Plato inherited in the Ionic and Pythagorean tradition. Confining ourselves to the psychological bearings of his views, we will look at his doctrine from both sides, taking the metaphysical first.

    Aristotle distinguished four sorts of "cause," as working together in things: "efficient," "formal," "final," and "material" cause. Of these, three fell together on the side of form (eidoV), manifested in reason, soul, and God. The fourth, the material cause, [p. 61] is matter ('ulh). This is Aristotle's interpretation of dualism. Aristotle declares that final cause was the relatively new conception which had been clearly distinguished before him only by Anaxagoras.

    But matter is not an independent principle: it exists only in connection with form and design. It is a limitation, a relative negation. The only independent absolute principle is God, who is, as in the Platonic teaching, both Reason and the Good.

    With such a metaphysics, there is no positive justification of science, psychological or other. Objective nature is teleological, an incorporation of reason, which gives it its form, movement, and final outcome. Life is a semi-rational teleological principle, working to an end -- a vitalistic conception. All form in nature is the product of a formative reason. Natural phenomena are not purely quantitative; formal distinctions are qualitative.

    The objective world is thus given its right to be; but it is a world in which reason is immanent. There are two great modes of reason, considered as cause, in the world: a cause is either a potency (dunamiV), or an act, called "entelechy" (enteleceia) or actuality (energeia). Reason or form, when not actual, slumbers as a potentiality in nature. Pure reason or God is pure actuality; matter is pure potentiality. As such God merely exists in eternal self-contemplation, apart from the world. The heavenly bodies are made of ether (not matter like that of the four elements) and have spirits; they are moved by love, directed toward God. In this we have a concrete rendering of the ideas and divine love of Plato.

    On this conception, "physics," which deals with phenomenal appearances, including psychology, is contrasted [p. 62] with the theory of causes, "first things," or "metaphysics."

    This philosophical conception so dominates Aristotle's mind that he practically abandons, in theory, the subjective point of view. In his view of the soul, he goes over to a biological conception, which is, however, not that of evolution. Natural species, like the types of Plato, are immutable. The soul is the "first entelechy" or formal cause of the body; in essence it is akin to ether. It embodies also the efficient and final causal principles. Man, in the masculine gender, alone realises the end of nature. Psychology, thus fused with biology, extends to plants and animals and so becomes a comparative science. The plants have nutritive and reproductive souls; they propagate their form. Animals have, besides, the sentient and moving soul, which is endowed with impulse, feeling, and the faculty of imaging. In man, finally, the thinking or rational soul is present. This is implanted in the person before birth from without; and at death it goes back to its source, the divine reason, where it continues in eternal but impersonal form. It is two-fold in its nature in man, partaking both of divine reason and of the sensitive soul; it is both active and passive (nouV poihtikos and nouV paqetikoV).

    In the theory of the relation of these souls to one another, Aristotle advances to a genetic and strictly modern point of view. They are not separate "parts," having different local seats in the body, as [p. 63] Plato taught, but functions of the one developing principle. The higher is developed from and includes the lower.

    In all this, it is evident that while the objective point of view is maintained, still the doctrine is not the result of a searching of consciousness; nor does it employ a strictly empirical method. It does not isolate the sphere of mind as one of conscious fact, distinct from that of the physical. The results are on the same level for mind, life, and physics in the narrower sense; they are deduced from the immanental conception of nature as a whole. So far Aristotle the metaphysician.

    But Aristotle the scientific observer is still to be heard from. It is clear that psychological facts may be observed, just as other facts may be, even in the absence of any clear distinction as to the presence or absence of consciousness. Aristotle set himself to investigate the functions of the soul, looking upon it as the biological principle of form in nature. In this sense, as using an objective method of observation, and as making important and lasting discoveries, he is properly to be described as the pioneer psychologist." (7)

    His insights were boundless and Pseudo-Aristotle or he, himself, also wrote about the Carthaginian ban on travel to America. His insight on the Carthaginian democratic system with a common consent king is important to getting a glimpse of how much better things were in the earlier times before Empire became all the rage. Whether he supported the stupid ban on educating women or just went along because it was politically incorrect and dangerous to do otherwise is something we may never really know. Aquinas re-worked much of Aristotle into the Catholic dogma and many Thomists in that behemoth still hold sway.

    Should we point out that the Apocalypse is older than Christianity or that contrary to what Christian academics say - alchemy and hermetics pre-date it as well? The Memphis center or ashram of the people who built the Pyramids was a very nice thing for the Egypt Exploration Fund to allow to get built over. It might have given us greater insight into the 'gods' referred to in this work.

    "Long before John allegedly wrote the Apocalypse on the island of Patmos, an unknown Egyptian wrote down the Lament, which some have titled “The Apocalypse”, for it prophesized the demise of the Egyptian religion. The Asclepius is sometimes not treated as part of the Corpus Hermeticum, as its Greek text was lost and it is only partially preserved in Latin. Some have described it as “one of the most moving passages of prose I have read from Classical Antiquity”. It predicted that “there will come a time when it will be seen that in vain have the Egyptians honoured the divinity with a pious mind and with assiduous service. All their holy worship will become inefficacious.” It predicted the end of the world – the Egyptian world.

    “Do you not know, Asclepius, that Egypt is an image of heaven or, to be more precise, that everything governed and moved in heaven came down to Egypt and was transferred there? If truth were told, our land is the temple of the whole world.” It is one of the most quoted relatively ancient Egyptian texts, though it is actually part of the Corpus Hermeticum and thus by some to be considered not Egyptian at all. It is the “extended and unabridged edition” of the dictum “as above, so below”. Some have labelled this the summary of the entire system of traditional and modern magic, while others believe it holds the key to all mysteries. It suggests that the macrocosmos was reflected in the microcosmos, a concept which formed the basis of astrology. For Robert Bauval, Wim Zitman and many others, it meant that Egypt’s monuments (read: pyramids) were earthly representations of the heavens, specifically creating a correspondence between the layout of the stars in the sky and the pyramids on Earth. For philosophers, it means that God was not some distant entity, but that God was the same as man, and man was God, each of us containing a divine spark. Most importantly, it also formed the backbone of magic, as it worked with correspondences. An act that was done here on Earth, had a correspondence in Heaven; asking a statue of a god on Earth was delivered to that god above.
    Everything was interrelated and interdependent. The purpose of all rituals in ceremonial magic was – and is – to unite the microcosm with the macrocosm, to join God, or the gods, when invoked (prayer or concentrated thought) with human consciousness. When such a supreme union was achieved, the subject and object became one. The magician felt that he was consciously in touch with all elements of the universe, therefore, he could control them. Authors like Jeremy Naydler have made it clear that the Egyptians expected nothing more, nothing less and nothing but, from their Pharaoh: to be a bridge between this world and the divine realm, to balance both and channel the lower things upwards and the higher things downwards. It led to a highly proscribed and ritualised lifestyle, with little room for deviation from that which was required to happen. It was a careful balance that had to be maintained at all cost, for the welfare of the nation.

    Egypt was a land of magic: it was meant to be an image of heaven and the Egyptians had always tried to do their utmost to make it so. But things were not about to last; the Lament spoke of a dark future – a vision of the apocalypse, when Egypt as the ancient Egyptians knew it would no longer be: “And yet, since it befits the wise to know all things in advance, of this you must not remain ignorant: a time will come when it will appear that the Egyptians paid respect to divinity with faithful mind and painstaking reverence – to no purpose. All their holy worship will be disappointed and perish without effect, for divinity will return from Earth to Heaven, and Egypt will be abandoned. The land that was the seat of reverence will be widowed by the powers and left destitute of their presence. When foreigners occupy the land and territory, not only will reverence fall into neglect but, even harder, a prohibition under penalty prescribed by law (so-called) will be enacted against reverence, fidelity and divine worship. Then this most holy land, seat of shrines and temples, will be filled completely with tombs and corpses.”

    And so it happened. Today, Egypt is indeed nothing but tombs and corpses, with Egyptology a science that is purely interested in the tombs and corpses, with only the most minimal of attention paid to the Egyptian religion, if at all. Indeed, today, most argue that the ancient Egyptian civilisation was impressive, but that their religion was ignorant of modern philosophical frameworks; several academics label the ancient Egyptian mindset as little better than primitive or one step beyond “savages”.

    We stand in awe of the temples and the statues of Horus in front of the Temple of Edfu, but we see nothing but a statue. In ancient Egyptian times, these statues were seen as being alive, animated – holding the spirit of the deity – being the deity – represented on Earth. But now the statues are indeed silent and “divinity has returned from Earth to Heaven”. The bond between Heaven and Earth, so central to the ancient Egyptian mind, has been broken and nothing but a dead landscape remains. Whereas the Lament is at pains to explain that, as unlikely it may seem for the ancient Egyptian that this will happen, for modern man, it is as unlikely to imagine that a stone statue was once believed to be a living entity, an earthly residence for a god, somehow “alive”.

    Indeed, “0 Egypt, Egypt, of your reverent deeds only stories will survive, and they will be incredible to your children! Only words cut in stone will survive to tell your faithful works, and the Scythian or Indian or some such neighbour barbarian will dwell in Egypt.” Indeed.

    As sad as this was, this was not the end of it. “Why weep, O Asclepius? Egypt will be carried away to worse things than this; she will be polluted with yet graver crimes. She, hitherto most holy, who so much loved the gods, only country of the Earth where the gods made their home in return for her devotion, she who taught men holiness and piety, will give example of the most atrocious cruelty, in that hour, weary of life, men will no longer regard the world as worthy object of their admiration and reverence.” Egypt was seen as the land where the gods dwelled. It was the only land in the world where the gods dwelled. And they dwelled in Egypt, for it was there that they were worshipped by the people; it was a symbiotic link."

    There is a movie titled As Above, So Below. I will never watch it but I think it has nothing to do with reality or this discussion. There is a book titled As Above, So Below which I have perused and found worthwhile and not occult at all.

    As above so below is often expressed alongside its synonym, as within so without. Teachings that expressed these instructions claimed it was impossible to study the universe without studying man, and conversely that it was impossible to study man without studying the universe. They stressed that, to study either man or the universe, one had to study both. This is one reason why ancient texts almost always dwell on both man and the universe alike. They rarely exclude one or the other.

    Man himself is obviously the nearest object to himself, far more observable than a microscopic atom or a telescopic galaxy. And yet, his inherent blindness to himself prevents him from seeing the obvious. Thus, to gain self-knowledge, man must often look outside of himself to another cosmos, and apply what he learns from the external to himself.     Following the path of within and without has lead to seeing matter co-existing with anti-matter which mystics knew before science as we think of it today would allow. We can say the same thing about Black Hole energy flowing from one universe or reality to another.

    Is there anything more in balance or harmonized than something identical on either side of the mirror (WITHIN and WITHOUT) or universe? Science used to say you could not have co-existing matter and anti-matter. Some still say only for a brief moment - NOW we have this. They may MIRROR each other. And that is what mystics have said about our universe associating with another which energy passes back and forth in - like we now know is the case with Black Holes. Penrose and Hawking thought not - until about a decade ago.

    Ben has a good background in various spiritual disciplines and sees energy flowing through universal chakras to potentially manifest anything in love and balance as I see Teilhard de Chardin calling for in a "Conspiracy of Love" which requires as many people or learning styles as there are chakras, and perhaps more. I think it would be nice to try.

Many of our religions do nothing to help that situation either...

    The bible teaches we have an unlimited potential to move mountains, and more… But the majority of humankind is not ready for anything more powerful than the ability to make babies. At least that was the case before the ten year evolutionary shift we experienced leading up to 2012. Now many are experiencing spontaneous initiations and experiences that took years of rigorous formal practice to attain in former ages. This trend is accelerating even more now in 2014

    There are many circuit breakers installed within us to stop at sex and go no further. This is for our own self protection because the act of sex turns the life force gasoline valve way up for a short period of time, sufficient enough to spawn a new independent life during conception. This is a natural ability and limitation built into us all from birth… If there were no limitations we would soon burn to a crisp as a species in the resulting chaos due to our inability to consciously handle and control the sudden increase of infinite power at any given time we may be in the mood for sex.

    Through regular practice of meditation, focused on absolute love, we will evolve and learn to develop responsibility, credibility, and a deep love and respect for everything. When that happens we begin to experience gift states of ecstasy far beyond a simple sexual orgasm, accompanied by powerful insights of knowledge and abilities to open the valve even more and focus more and more pranic energy without fear, for the purpose of healing, age reversal, sustenance without the need for physical food, and many other wonderful gifts of the spirit.

    How can I resist when people who are saying so many things I love and have worked hard to add to, appear with such wonder - I must post? Will the coming spiritual age prophesized in the Mayan Calendar continue to grow and cause a true paradigm change? This article could also go under the political and spiritual v. material thread(s).

    "Everywhere I look lately there is something stirring. On a macro level there's a collective heartfelt call for governing bodies, in whatever shape they may take, to operate with more integrity for humanity and for the planet in general. I have also witnessed this air of unease at a micro level.

    People approach in ever increasing numbers feeling a deep need for personal change from within. Many have expressed this unease as a rude awakening. Earlier, I gazed outside at the first snowdrops poking their heads into the frosty February morning and I wondered if they too were reluctantly obeying this same instruction to awaken. Is life pre-ordained after all?

    As I marinated my heart and mind in this phenomenon I found myself opening up to the wonderful possibility that all this unrest could be the beginning of mankind moving into a new paradigm. The public at large desire changes in the structure of the society in which they live.

    There is corruption in all societal systems from capitalism to communism. Corruption is caused by negative human impulses, like greed and a need to win "at all costs" for example. Could it be that the human race is both collectively and individually outgrowing these antiquated lower desires that leave every social system in ruins? Or is it just a coincidence that the need for change at all levels is happening all at once?

    Society is like a jigsaw that has become self-aware and finds that it's discontent. But not only does the jigsaw desire change but it comes to light that all of the pieces also want to carve out another role for themselves within the jigsaw. We have always been faced with change but not on this magnitude.

    Many have had enough of war and the scare mongering that is perpetually channelled through every TV set. One thing is certain. The human race will annihilate both itself and the planet if we do not engage in some wisdom, a human faculty that has been largely dormant in macro and micro decision making since the time of Socrates. This inner and outer unrest is not a calling to war and more human suffering but rather an urge to evolve beyond the status quo and the current frame of reference. At some point it becomes better to step into the unknown and create a new reality than to tolerate an ever-deteriorating quality of existence. The time is fast approaching when there are unprecedented choices to be made.

    So, like Morpheus, I offer you the blue or the red pill. Which are you going to take?

    For me, it is a time for "A Return to Love" as Marianne Williamson would have it. For, ultimate knowledge is wisdom and ultimate wisdom is love."

    Hold on to your hat! No kidding this could actually knock your hat off. Outside your body (in your aura or part of your solar body) you have five chakras to go with the seven in your body that co-ordinate the inner chhi and nerve energies (Which Eastern thought knew thousands of years before modern neuroscience.). The people who built the stupas and temples knew a thing or two about these energies also. The Irish and Keltic menhirs and megaliths we have said have piezo electric charges also act as antennae as the Pyramid collects solar and earth grid energy. And we have many threads on the cultural to mind-body evolution and at -one -ments where this will apply. It will also apply to the psychotronic generation through the ankh in the Pavlita generator and the caduceus coiled Kundalini serpent on staffs like the medical groups have and which staffs of ancient esoteric adepts had that were enhanced into the Tepaphone. The shem-an-na conical stones also have similar design.

According to scripture, God does not dwell in temples made by the hands of men but his church is the human bodies of those same Israelites and gentiles who yield their will to his, and Christ is the cornerstone of the temple (Ephesians 2:20). However, for pagan temples and the bodies of those who yield their mind’s to the Anti-Christ, the keystone/cornerstone or spine of their build is the backbone of the god Ptah/Osiris....

    The energies of specific celestial bodies that are channeled into the temple of Osiris/Baal effectively transform the minds and bodies of the individuals exposed to the energy. The shape of the building, in this example, a stupa or gab H1354, magnifies that energy inside of the temple chamber and quickens the process of “enlightenment”. This enlightenment can be defined as a unification of the mind and body of man (the human/physical temple) with the mind and body of the spirit/god/energy of the temple. These temples are typically built in specific locations that align with particular energies that aid the process of transformation and enlightenment....

For them, their body’s cells are exposed to a maximum level of energy. The very liquid crystal structure of billions of cells within their bodies resonates with the energy emanating from the fault lines....

    The Cup of the Stolistes partakes in part of the Symbolism of the Laver of Moses and the Sea of Solomon. On the Tree of Life, it embraces nine of the Sephiroth, exclusive of Kether. Yesod and Malkuth form the triangle below, the former the apex, the latter the base. Like Caduceus, it further represents the Three Elements of Water, Air and Fire. The Crescent is the Water which is above the Firmament, and the Triangle the consuming Fire below, which is opposed to the Celestial Fire symbolized by the upper part of the Caduceus....

    The conical crown channels the energy of energy frequency of Nimrod/Osiris/Baal/Buddha and the wearer becomes the embodiment/temple of the god. The knowledge of how to unite/resonate with a god/energy was guard secret and perhaps adds another aspect to the idea of “divine right” of rulership. In the Hindu/Buddhist practice of Vastu Shastra, it is believed that the temple not only is symbolic of the house of the deity on earth but it is the actual deity itself. The human body is a temple, so, adorning it in certain regalia will change the shape/reception of the antenna and temple/body. This will allow the body to channel a particular energy frequency, through oscillation, transforming the human bod/temple into the deity. This is one way that god-kings ruled by divine right or divine rite, for on certain people possessed the divine knowledge/mysteries of metaphysics and occult rites."


    So you can see form has it's place in the memes and icons of all things. The Pharaoh's hats, the Witch's hat and your dunce cap all focus energy to your Third Eye or Pineal gland we have said was also in the caduceus and looks like a pine cone. Your pineal gland has crystals and acts like a crystal radio set of old as the book The Wonder Child told us people like Gazzaniga and Edelman are researching. Any pressure or energy approaching the Thalami are processed and used by the adept. It was so effective that the Chanes of Central America boarded their kids head to make it separate the brain hemispheres to allow the cosmic energy direct access to the Thalami and Third Eye. Dagobert's trepanning was for this reason and not what academics tell you, he was a Merovingian King of France. One of the reasons laid out by Gardiner for the need of the fresh human thalami is those crystalline structures including Rhodium and Iridium. Thus you have the psychic supermen like the Bush Family who do the Bonesmen Obscene Rituals. I believe it wears off in short order and was just kidding about the Bush family being super.

    Adam Mc Lean has these words to offer on the stem cell research issue, which seem pertinent to our changing universe of thought, about the reality of our universe. It did not copy well due to columns of printing, but the early part should be obvious, it is the usual presentation of an emotional argument.


    (For example, Rudolf Steiner suggested that the 'ego' or spirit of a human being incarnated in the developing embryo around the 21st day when the neural tube, the basis for the spinal cord and the central nervous system, forms itself through a migration of cells across the embryonic disc). I wonder, however, whether these earlier attempts of esotericists to see physical developments in the embryo as the work of the incarnating spirit building its physical vehicle for this life, remain a valid viewpoint in the present current of philosophical thought. For they retain a certain dualism between spirit and body that may not map onto reality. Many parallels exist with other domains of human knowledge being explored at present. For example, just how is our consciousness bound up in our brain? The naïve esoteric view that the brain is merely a machine through which our spirit gains a precarious hold upon an outer material plane of existence, although comforting and valid in a certain way, presents some difficulties when examined in the light of new discoveries in neuro-physiology and contemporary philosophy.

    Likewise, recent theories of cosmology presents us with certain problems if we try to hold to naïve dualism. A cosmological picture is emerging at present which radically explains the creation and evolution of the Universe as a result of the pre-geometry of higher dimensional space-time. But how do we account for the existence of intelligence, the sense of 'being1, and our creative human consciousness within this model of cosmic evolution. Simplistically, we can argue for the existence of a spiritual plane which lies above or beyond the material universe and yet somehow directs its evolution. This was the path taken by the theosophists in their picture of 'spiritual evolution', but this ultimately is a return to a kind of 9R- 2 dualism. But perhaps in so doing we fail to take on board some of the most profound ideas in the history of human thought that are found in Quantum Theory, particularly in the realisation that consciousness is implicit in observation and that the 19th century ideal of the objective observer remotely observing events is no longer possible in Quantum Science. In the new philosophy of science that is emerging, consciousness arises out of quantum probability, and these are surely the ideas we must absorb if as esotericists we are to evolve and remain in touch with the currents of thought that will work in the next millenium. It may be no accident that the hermetic alchemical tradition centuries ago looked closely at the possibility of creating or manipulating life in a test tube or flask. Thus their concern with the homunculus and the sowing of 'the seed of the red man and his white wife' in a retort to give birth to the Philosophic Child. The hermetic philosophy may indeed be capable of bridging this seeming gulf between spirit and body.

    There is a profound message in the Hermetic maxim "that which is above is as that which is below", which can conquer the simplistic dualism that I believe holds us back from a true rapprochement with new philosophical ideas struggling to be reborn in current human thought, but only when we remember to complete the phrase "and that which is below is as that which is above, to accomplish the miracle of the one thingt1. Perhaps this realisation that the spiritual and the material are not separate realms, fundamentally severed one from another, but as the ancient hermeticists knew only too well, interpenetrate one another so profoundly that they cannot be teased apart, might help us address these deep problems posed us by the far reaching discoveries of our age."

    If we make our 'below' materialistic as we have done with the help of religion (ironic) will we have success in doing the same to our 'above'?

    In the previous lectures, we described the ancient science of Alchemy, and how throughout all the ancient religions and mystical traditions around the world the science of Alchemy protected and preserved a very special kind of knowledge, whose nature is hidden in the word “Alchemy.”

    We see that the word Alchemy has two components:
    1.the first two letters are “Al” which is Arabic for Al (Allah), “God,” and corresponds directly to the Hebrew אל El, God.”
    2.“chem” has different roots that all apply. Kimia (Greek χυμεία) means “to fuse or cast a metal.” Most people have heard that Alchemy is about transmuting lead into gold or transforming impure metals into purified metals. At the same time chem or khem is also from Egyptian. That is the old Egyptian name for Egypt: Khem. Translated from ancient Egyptian Khem means “the black earth.”

    In the first lecture in this series about Alchemy, we explained that the four elements of Alchemy are symbolic, not literal. We discussed that the element earth represents our body, matter, whether physical matter or in the internal worlds it is the matter of those worlds. Our earth, our body, our self, is blackened, impure, filled with suffering, filled with anger, lust, pride, envy and all the other problems we have.

    So the term Alchemy is about the relationship between Al (God) and Khem, (the black earth: us), and our goal is to fuse them. For that to happen, our earth needs to become pure.

    This is why Alchemy describes in all of its images and scriptures processes of purification using many different types of terms and symbols and images, processes, allegories, metaphors, symbolic mysteries that describe the process of being purified. That purification is not simply physical, it is on every level.

    Our physical body is not as important as we think it is. The physical body is impermanent, temporary. We do not know how long we will have it. We need to take care of it and use it well, but really, we have had many bodies already, and we will have more, hopefully, if we have earned it. What matters more is what inhabits the body, which is our psyche. That is also our earth, alchemically speaking. It is that part of us that is here in a physical earth, but also needs to be purified.

    So in the previous lecture, we described for you how this process of purification is described in many ways in Alchemy. These first images shows some of those Alchemical drawings that illustrate or symbolize the process of psychological purification that we need, the process of cleaning our psyche."
